Scope and content
Fonds consists of works of art, including paintings, prints, and watercolours of landmarks, cityscapes, scenic views, historical events and personalities, and MacPherson family members. It also contains photographs of views along the B.C. route of the Canadian Pacific Railway, ca. 1888. The fonds includes an original 8 page letter, dated 18 October 1911, to W.M. Macpherson written by his sister, Isabel, relating to E.B. Osler, Lord Willoughby-de-Broke, W.Page Croft, and family business. Enclosed are clippings about Lord Willoughby-de-Broke, the Halsbury Club, A.J. Balfour, the Imperial Conference of 1911 and a London, England, labour dispute.

Biography / Administrative history
Businessman Banker
W.M. Macpherson was born in Montreal, the son of Sir David L. Macpherson and Elizabeth Molson, and was educated in England. After entering business in England, he returned to Canada in 1870. In 1872, he formed the Dominion Steamship Company and subsequently became director of a number of other companies. He was associated with Molson's Bank for many years and in 1897 became president. Macpherson was also a Harbour Commissioner for the Port of Quebec and an active supporter of the campaign to rehabilitate the Plains of Abraham. See Canadian Who's Who, 1910, p. 146.
