Topley Series SC [graphic material] 

Series consists of


1860-1918, predominant 1911-1914

Place of creation


1402 photographs : b&w, 698 nitrate negatives, 4 prints and 700 glass plate negatives ; various dimensions, mostly 12.5 x 17.5 cm or 17.5 x 12.5 cm, some 11.5 x 17.0 or 17.0 x 11.5 (rounded to nearest half centimeter).

Scope and content

This series contains 1402 photographs of rural and urban landscape scenes in Canada, including many photographed in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, and Québec. Included in this series are numerous photographs of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's tour of Canada, and visit to Jasper National Park, in 1914. Also included are some photographs of British, Irish and Scottish landscapes; in addition to portraits of new immigrants arriving at the Québec immigration center in 1911.

2. The S likely stands for "Stock," in that these photographs were likely used for commercial purposes. As they came from the "C" series, these photographs were termed as "SC".
