Scope and content
This series contains 351 photographs of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York (later King George V and Queen Mary) on their coast-to-coast royal tour of Canada between September 16th and October 21st, 1901. Although the tour officially commenced in Québec, the photographs in this series were taken by Topley after the couple arrived in Ottawa on September 20th. Photographs were taken of the tour in various cities across Ontario, including Ottawa, Toronto, Guelph, Kitchener, Stratford, London, Hamilton, and Kingston. In Western Canada, the couple were photographed in Winnipeg, Poplar Point, Regina, Moose Jaw, Calgary, Banff and Laggan. There are some photographs taken of their trip to Vancouver, BC. Finally, there are photographs of the couple and their royal party taken in St. John and Halifax, where the couple ended their tour on October 21st and sailed back home on the Ophir.
