Creator / Provenance
Biography / Administrative history
Born in Vancouver, Bruce Fairbairn began to play the trumpet at the age of five, received classical music training, and graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in urban planning. He played in Vancouver rock bands such as The Spectres and Sunshyne, and in 1976 was a founding member of the rock group Prism. By ca. 1978 Fairbairn had stopped performing with Prism, but served as the band's producer during its most successful period in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Fairbairn then produced recordings by the rock group Loverboy, winning a Juno award for his contributions to that group's 1983 album Get Lucky. Fairbairn's career as a record producer flourished in the 1980s and 1990s, when he produced albums by leading international rock and popular artists such as AC/DC, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Chicago, the Cranberries, Scorpions, and Van Halen. By the mid 1990s, recordings produced by Fairbairn had sold some 60 million copies worldwide. The recipient of numerous music industry awards, Fairbairn was posthumously inducted in 2000 into the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences' Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
