Scope and content
Series consists of subject files and reports compiled by O. M. Hill, Department Historian, in her preparation between 1972 and 1977 of the history of the Department of Trade and Commerce. Some of the reports date from the early 1960's when the departmental history project was first begun. The bulk of this material consists of subject files and historical sketches. There are also many historical reports prepared by research assistants on such varied topics as the Ottawa conference, 1932; steamship subsidies; trade with the British West Indies; etc. The subject files contain original pieces of correspondence that were taken from central registry files as well as copies of such correspondence. In addition, such files contain a short essay on the given subject.
