Mr. Ward served as Deputy Minister of Labour for Canada from 1923 to 1934 when he retired due to ill health. He joined the Ottawa Curling Club in 1935 and remained active as both a player and club official (in various capacities) for the rest of his life. The Ottawa Curling Club has been a member of the Canadian Branch since the Branch's founding in 1852. As a member of the Ottawa Club, Ward soon became involved in Branch activities. He was appointed Branch Historian in 1954. In his capacity as historian he not only compiled the records of the various Branch trophy competitions, but also aided in the production of the Branch Annual Reports.
